Current Research
Cystic Fibrosis
We are studying the subpopulations of cells in the surface airway epithelium and submucosal glands in order to ultimately identify the stem and progenitor cells of the airway that could be targeted for gene therapy of Cystic Fibrosis.
COVID-19
We are increasing our understanding of the effects of cigarette smoke on SARS-CoV-2 infection and performing high throughput screening of human lung models to identify new therapies.
Idipoathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
We are developing new, relevant, human models of IPF and performing high throughput screening to identify new therapies and understand the biology of the disease.
Lung Cancer
We are studying mechanisms of lung carcinogenesis by increasing our understanding of airway homeostasis. We are also studying chemoresistance mechanisms in small cell lung cancer.
Effects of Smoking & Vaping
We are studying the effects of cigarette and vape smoke on the human airway system by utilizing models to mimic the unique micro-environments of the lungs.
